Gallant Zebras go down fighting

POTCHEFSTROOM: The national Under-23 suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat at the hands of Cameroon in the Sasol Eight Nations Tournament final played at the Olen Park yesterday.

Having lost to the Zebras 1-0 in the group stages at the Eldorado Park in Johannesburg last Wednesday, it was clear that the Cameroonians were seeking revenge as they launched attacks right from kick-off. As expected, the well-built West Africans relied on their wings to try to open the watertight Botswana defence but their efforts were frustrated for most of the game. Young Zebras' goalkeeper Noah Maposa was forced to make a save early in the game from Outdor Edet Otobongene's shot.

Botswana struggled to settle in the game despite the support from the South African crowd, which packed the western stands of the stadium. Against the rum of play, Boniface Makolo crossed into the box in the 25th minute but Alexis Enam cleared the danger.
