Fresh doubts over Supersport deal

With only a few weeks before the start of the beMOBILE Premier League 2013/2014 season, a cloud of doubt hangs over the broadcast deal between the Botswana Football Association (BFA) and pay-per-view channel Supersport.

The said deal was reportedly done, but not yet dusted back in May, but it now turns out it has stalled. Reliable sources told this paper that the BFA has encountered difficulties in concluding the deal before the league starts.

BFA president Tebogo Sebego had confirmed to this paper in May that a contract had been signed, though he did not reveal the details. It was then speculated that that the deal did not involve any cash payouts from Supersport to the Botswana Premier league (BPL).Supersport had a trial run of the local league towards the end of last season and agreed to be the new broadcaster of the league. As things stand now, nothing has been communicated and neither of the involved parties is willing to shed light on what is happening. Contacted for comment yesterday, Supersport executive producer for Africa, Max Tshunungwa said he was not in a position to say anything until further notice. "I can not comment on anything at the moment because nothing has been finalised yet," he said.
