Diamond-mining giant, Debswana has announced a P6 million sponsorship for the First Division, which was expected to be launched in Gaborone last night. The three year deal is for the two Divisions; the North and South.

First Division South secretary, Sidney Magagane welcomed the sponsorship saying the league has been suffering for a long time. The last time the league had a sponsor was eight years ago when Med Rescue Botswana was the partner. Magagane said they expect the sponsorship to motivate teams which should lead to improvement in quality.

"We hope it will also open doors for more sponsors," he said. Magagane explained that life is difficult for teams in the First Division as in some cases they had to run it from their own pockets.  Meanwhile, First Division South outfit Jwaneng Comets might return to the top flight season as they sit top of the South league.
