First boxing tourney impresses

The University of Botswana (UB) student union hall was oozing with activity on Saturday as the Botswana Boxing Association (BoBA) hosted its first interclub tournament of the year.

The event attracted 64 boxers from different clubs countrywide squaring up in 32 bouts of eight weight categories.

The tourney that went late into the night, renewed rivalry between local pugilists giving them a fair chance to settle old grudges inside the ring. The best bout of the tournament was probably in the 75kg category between Moabi Mothiba of Diamond Trading Company Botswana (DTCB) and Kenny Maragana of SSKB Boxing Club. The two traded heavy punches from the first round keeping spectators on their toes as neither of them showed signs of backing down.
