Fading light disrupts women's league matches

FRANCISTOWN: The winner of this year's Botswana Rugby Union B-Division women league second round is yet to be decided after the games were disrupted by encroaching darkness at the weekend, Mmegi Sport has learnt.

The games held at the Francistown stadium had also attracted men's teams - eight of them over all.  Seven women's teams took part at the games, which are played annually in a tournament format. The Botswana College of Agriculture (BCA), BDF Cheetahs, Jwaneng and NIIT women's teams had booked themselves a place in the semi-finals, which could not go ahead because of darkness. The officials and team captains then agreed that the rules of the competition be changed to decide the winner of the competition.

"The team that amassed the highest number of tries amongst the two top teams in each pool (pool A and B) leading to the semi-final will be crowned the winner of the division. In a case where the two teams have scored the same number of tries, tries against will be used to decide the winner of the division," Kealeboga Charles, the Administration Executive at the Botswana Rugby Union (BRU) said yesterday. "We will also use the same format to decide the third and fourth positions currently contested by NIIT and Jwaneng who both came second in their respective pools".He stated that the union was still counting the tries for the four teams before releasing the results for the games. The winner of the division should have been announced by Friday.
