Eight juniors will leave on Tuesday for the Isle of Man for the Commonwealth Youth Games, which run from September 6-13.

Botswana will be represented in athletics, swimming, boxing and badminton and are targeting at least four medals. Botswana won two medals at the last competition in 2008 where the country was making its debut.

Speaking at a farewell dinner on Wednesday, Minister of Youth, Sport and Culture Shaw Kgathi urged the athletes to avoid performance-enhancing drugs saying the benefits of staying clean are enormous. "I would like to urge you to desist from using performance enhancing drugs so that your future in sport may be successful," he said. Kgathi also advised the youngsters to take advantage of educational and cultural programs that will be offered at the competition for own personal development and growth. "This is because the benefits of participation are not only realised in the field of play, but also in interactions with other participants at the event," he said.
