Division 7 cricket tournament starts

The Pepsi ICC World Cricket League (WCL) Division 7 50-overs tournament starts tomorrow with Botswana kick-starting their campaign with a tie against Ghana.

The tournament's official opening was held yesterday evening at which the Minister for Presidential Affairs and Public Administration, Mokgweetsi Masisi was expected to officiate. Six nations- Botswana, Germany, Nigeria, Ghana, Fiji and Vanuatu - will battle it out over one week. The games will be played at the Gaborone Oval and Lobatse Oval. The top two teams will proceed to play in Division 6 in Jersey (UK) in July this year.

The competing teams are already in the country in order to acclimatise themselves. Practice games and net sessions have been allotted prior to the start of the tournament. BCA fixtures and publicity secretary Sumod Damor said Ravi Angara has been appointed as an umpire in the main panel while Deepak Narayan and Sachin Weeratunge will be the reserve umpires performing third umpire duties.
