Demoralised Under-17 team leaves for Morocco

The national Under-17 team left for Morocco for the 10th Africa Championship a dispirited lot amid reports of unrest in the camp.

Coach Kagiso Kobedi spent some time talking to the media yesterday morning before departure and ran short of saying they were merely going to participate as he bemoaned poor preparations and divisions among the officials. This is a sharp contrast to a team that only towards the end of 2012 was oozing with confidence as they saw off Malawi, Rwanda and Algeria in the qualifiers.

Kobedi said the preparations were entirely off rail despite the BFA's last minute efforts to try to map out something to get the team ready. He said they missed a lot of time at the beginning of the year and this was not supposed to happen, as there was very little time between the end of the qualifiers and the start of the tournament. He said they have however not given up even though their opponents, who are currently in Europe, will be better prepared than them. Kobedi's team was now scheduled to be in Spain, but the trip was cancelled in favour of the Gauteng Future Champions tournament last week.
