Chiefs seek revenge against GU

Mochudi Centre Chiefs visit rivals Gaborone United (GU) in a be MOBILE Premier League game at the UB Stadium on Sunday afternoon seeking to halt a losing run against the defending champions.

On the way to winning the title last season, GU broke the hearts of Chiefs twice - the second one on the last day of the campaign in a game that decided who takes the title between the two sides. In the first round clash played at UB Stadium, GU beat Chiefs 2-1 in a controversial clash. The Reds repeated the feat beating Chiefs 1-0 in the second round in a game. Being a title decider, the second defeat was heart-breaking for Chiefs and goalkeeper Noah Maposa wept uncontrollably and had to be consoled by his brothers Stephen and Wellington Maposa, who play for the Reds. Interestingly, it was Wellington who scored the goal, which brought his brother to tears.

After the two defeats, Chiefs have vowed that it is payback time and the national champions must be punished for their 'sins'. Chiefs' captain Tshepo 'Talk-Talk' Motlhabankwe told Mmegi Sport yesterday that the match against GU on Sunday comes at the right time when their wounds have not healed. "It was painful to see GU lifting the league trophy because we wanted to defend it. They (GU) owe us taking into consideration that they did not only deny us our title defence but they beat us twice. Come Sunday, GU will have to pay dearly," he said. Motlhabankwe added that they have prepared thoroughly for the Sunday match despite the rains, which hit Gaborone this week. He said the current crop of players at Chiefs want to win things since they are ambitious to be remembered as the best ever Magosi squad. "Our chairman (Ernest Molome) is passionate about this team and we never want to disappoint him whenever we go into the field. Our supporters have also been encouraging and this is one game we have to win for them," said Motlhabankwe. After thumping TAFIC 4-1 in Molepolole last weekend, Magosi approach the Sunday game with their tails high. Zambian striker Musonda Mweuka, Othusitse 'Jabu' Pilane, Dirang Moloi and Given Mpundu are some of the players Rollers will rely on to scoop maximum points. Enterprising midfielder Lesego Galenamotlhale will have to be closely guarded by the Reds.
