Chiefs humiliated in Lubumbashi

Mochudi Centre Chiefs suffered an embarrassing 6-0 loss at the hands of TP Mazembe in the return leg of the second round of the CAF Champions League yesterday.

A brace by Rainford Kalaba and Tresor Mputu and two more goals from Samatta and Nkulukuta handed the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) side an emphatic 7-0 aggregate win in front of the home crowd. Mazembe beat Chiefs 1-0 in the first leg in Gaborone to set the stage for the humiliation.

It could have been worse for Chiefs had it not been for goalkeeper Mompoloki Sephekolo who made several good saves to prevent the score from hitting double digits. The absence of experienced Tshepo Motlhabankwe and Michael Mogaladi meant Madinda Ndlovu had to make key adjustments in his back four, with Amos Godirwang moving from midfield to defence. The Chiefs' defence was exposed badly from the start and conceded a penalty early in the first half that Mputu converted to give Mazembe a 2-0 lead after Kalaba had opened the score in the sixth minute. Mazembe pumped in more goals as the visitors struggled to find the ball and fared badly in all departments throughout the game. The Congolese will now face South Africa's Orlando Pirates who beat Zambian side Zanaco 2-1 on Saturday night.
