Chiefs could only gain a point against Lions
Chiefs produced the first attempt at goal as early as the eighth minute, with attacker Lemponye Tshireletso’s cross going begging. Tshireletso was a thorn on the Lions’ defence and called the goalkeeper, Lesego Bosekeng into action with a long range shot from outside the box in the 16th minute. Bosekeng was once again to make a save in the 29th minute as he superbly dealt with Onalethata Tshekiso’s snap shot from close range. Kenanao Kgetholetsile broke the deadlock in the 36th minute when he clinically beat Mmompoloki Sephekolo on the near post to give Lions the lead. Chiefs nearly equalised in the dying minutes of the first half, but only hit the post. Lions took a slim lead into the break.
In the 62nd minute, Tshireletso tucked in a low cross from Senatla Molefe to level matters, with the half’s real chance at goal. Chiefs piled pressure on Lions defence, but missed chances in succession as Nyumasi hit the upright with a header and Jackie Mothathego’s long range effort went just wide. Matthews Nyamadzawo missed a last minute chance to steal victory with his shot going over the bar.
