Botswana mens and womens senior volleyball teams have arrived in Mozambique and are raring to go ahead of the World Cup qualifiers which start today.

Delegation leader George Keotsene said they were well received and teams started training yesterday. The two teams have also played friendly matches against the local national sides with the women team winning 3-0, while the men side lost. The teams arrived in Maputo on Sunday. Botswana has been pitted against host Mozambique, Lesotho and Swaziland while South Africa failed to make it. The other pool has Namibia, Zimbabwe, Angola, Zambia and Malawi. The teams that finish in the top three will meet top teams from the other Zone 6 pool. The top two women and three men’s teams will qualify for the World Cup.

Lesotho and Mozambique always give Botswana a headache and Keotsene expects the same thing this time around. He said Swaziland is the only closed book to them. On the women’s side, however, Keotsene does not foresee the team facing much trouble because South Africa is usually the one that gives them a headache. After watching the two play in friendly matches, Keotsene said the players are in good shape and should represent the country well.
