BONA goes to the polls tomorrow

A tough battle is expected between incumbent Tebogo Lebotse and current sports development manager Onkemetse Mpudi for the presidency of Botswana Netball Association (BONA) in Palapye tomorrow.

The race pits two women who are hugely experienced in the game and only the elections will reveal who is heavier than the other.  Lebotse wants the voters to bring her back because she still has a lot to offer to the game."I believe my work as BONA president in the past six years speak for themselves," she told Mmegi Sport. She said through her leadership the game has achieved a lot of things among others a reputable brand that has the respect of the sporting fraternity in Botswana, national team recognition and respect within Africa and internationally (qualified for two consecutive world cups).

Additionally she believes they have produced athletes who can compete in the international market (Singapore league. Lebotse said she lobbied for Botswana to put in a bid to host the 2017 Youth Netball World Championship. "The outcome of this bid will be made this year and if Botswana this will be the cream of my legacy for Botswana and Africa Netball," she said.  She added that her strategy into the next four years is for BONA to deliver world-class events that put the athlete at the centre of the netball game.  Though netball is not played at the BONA put in a strong case supported by the INF.  The BNOC has included netball as one of the sports to be played at these games.
