BNOC gets Amos Olympic Solidarity grant

Nijel Amos, who was on an interim arrangement with the Botswana National Olympic Committee (BNOC) while his Olympic Solidarity scholarship was being assessed, was finally granted the Olympic Solidarity Athlete Support Grant recently.

"BNOC is proud to announce that OS will be taking over Amos' s welfare costs. This new development is highly welcome, as it has diverted the funds for other projects while the young promising athlete continues to train and perform as per expectation," the council said in a statement.Amos will continue to be based at the FNB High Performance Institute under the care of Coach Vester, and will be moving to Europe, HPI European base while he continues his quest to qualify for the World Championships in Moscow, Russia.

"BNOC is proud to announce that we are still highly optimistic that the other athletes submitted will get into the OS programme as it has been seen worthy, following the great success of all the previous beneficiaries amongst which, Pako Seribe, Isaac Makwala, Amantle Montsho and Kabelo Kgosiemang, who is the first Motswana to qualify for World Championships this year."BNOC chief executive officer (CEO) Tuelo Serufho, has highlighted that OS Scholarships are world class efficient scholarships and have a clear success rate locally and internationally. He further highlighted that "This is a welcome development; Amos is indeed an exceptionally promising athlete. Most of Botswana 's elite pool are, and for that reason, BNOC will try its best to ensure the same is availed to the other athletes," he said.
