BNOC discourages athletes from using supplements

The Botswana National Olympic Committee wishes to pronounce that it does not promote the use of supplements by athletes.

As the host of the Interim Committee on Anti Doping we are of the view that supplements expose athletes to the risk of doping. It has come to our attention that some athletes are using nutritional supplements to, inter alia, improve their recovery, enhance their well-being and boost their performance.

While there is no law that debars athletes from that practice we strongly discourage this practice as World Anti Doping Agency (WADA) does not regulate supplements, therefore, there can never be assurance with respect to the accuracy of the ingredient lists, amongst other things. The BNOC'S position on the use of supplements is as stated above and federations / associations or athletes that choose to use supplements do so at their own risk.
