BFA yet to draw Zebras' budget

The Botswana Football Association (BFA) is yet to draw up the Zebras' budget for the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) finals despite the team being on the verge of clinching qualification.

BFA chief executive officer (CEO) Judge Mookodi said they were still to finalise the budget proposal. "We have not yet finalised the budget; it has to wait. We want the technical team to put everything together as there will be more friendly matches," Mookodi said.

Victory away to Chad in March will clinch a maiden AFCON finals place for the Zebras. Oil-rich West African countries, Equatorial-Guinea and Gabon will host the 2012 AFCON edition. Late last year, Mookodi said the association did not want to rush the process of compiling the budget process.  "We have not submitted our budget proposal as we are still doing our costing. We want to be thorough. We know that our ordinary grant will not suffice," he said. The proposal will be forwarded to Botswana National Sports Council (BNSC) before April 2011. The BNSC financial year ends in December and proposals from affiliates are submitted in April. The BFA largely relies on a government grant, which is inadequate to cover the association's expenditure.
