SELEBI-PHIKWE: Michael Molefe has threatened to resign as the Selebi-Phikwe Region Football Association (SPRFA) chairperson because of divisions in the troubled region.

He told the visiting Botswana Football Association (BFA) national officials on Sunday that he will quit if factionalism does not stop in the region. He made the threat to BFA chief executive officer (CEO) Mooketsi Tosh Kgotlele and vice president- technical, Dintle Mphele. The duo convened a meeting in Selebi-Phikwe which became heated and chaotic. The two visited the region as a follow up to a series of meetings late last year aimed at resolving an impasse in the troubled regional committee.

The new SPRFA committee was plunged into a crisis last September when four members resigned. Fresh elections were called to replace the quartet but some members argued that a wrong constitution was used. Molefe did not mince his words when he told Kgotlele and Mphele that if their visit was influenced by factional wars, he would quit his post. "If this call is based on factional divisions that nearly brought SPRFA to its knees because of individuals who could not accept defeat, then I state before you that my love for serving football ends here," Molefe said.
