The Botswana Football Association (BFA) has denied claims that it has been given funds by the government to pay players' allowances. The claims have been made by the Minister of Youth, Sports and Culture, Gladys Kokorwe. She has said that the government recently dispatched P1.6 million to the BFA.

However, the BFA chief executive officer, Mooketsi 'Tosh' Kgotlele said they are still waiting for the money from the government. Botswana National Sports Council (BNSC) executive secretary, Kitso Kemoeng referred inquiries on the issue to the Department of Sports and Recreation.

Last year, the government announced that it was going to fund the BFA to pay monthly allowances to players in the Premier League and First Division. Players in the Premier League were to get monthly allowances of P500 while those in the First Division would earn P250. When the government made the announcement last year, it seemed the BFA was against the proposal.
