BDF VI Coach Plans To Quit

BDF VI men volleyball coach Selebatso Mabutho is contemplating quitting at the end of the year.

Mabutho has been with the club for five years and has built a crack side, which has won every cup on offer in local volleyball. He believes he has played his part and it is time to explore other interests.

He said he will not be leaving volleyball and he will serve in a different position in the club. "I have grown as a coach and I believe it is time I move into something more challenging," Mabutho said. However, he still has to consult with his bosses in the army before he leaves coaching. "If they do not allow me to leave, then it means I will still remain the coach," he said. Mabutho started as a player at the army side in 1988 and retired in 1996 to take up coaching. The 41-year-old coach never disappointed at BDF VI as he continued the legacy left by his predecessor, Stone Mekgwe. The highlight of his career was when his side won Africa Club Championships in 2006 and 2007.  BDF VI has won more competitions than any other team locally. Mabutho said the secret behind his team's success is discipline and commitment.
