BCA introduces T20 cricket

The Botswana Cricket Association starts off the 2014 season on a high note by introducing the national T20 tournament.

This will be the first time for the country to host a national T20 tournament. “The tournament will involve teams from the northern region and southern region and it will be played some time in March. We are still finalising the fixtures,” said publicity secretary Sumod Damodar. Damodar said teams from the northern region will face each and the same will happen in the southern region. Winners from both regions will face each other in the final. Damodar told Mmegi Sport that this year there will be a series of T20 tournaments in the country. The BCA is slowly introducing different cricket formats at national level. Last year the association introduced the national 50 overs tournament.

Damodar said  a course for 40 primary school teachers at Motsatsing Primary School in Kanye has been scheduled for February 20 and 19. The BCA’s development coach, Innocent Chando, will conduct the course. Damodar said the BCA will be sending two girls to the ICC-ACA Senior Women’s Elite Academy in South Africa for an extensive cricket coaching programme which will be held from the February 21 to 25.
