BBA names Namibia-bound bowlers

SELEBI-PHIKWE: The Botswana Bowling Association (BBA) has named a 10-man team to represent the country at the African States Tournament (AST) to be held in Windhoek, Namibia, in September this year.

BBA spokesperson John Gaborutwe told Mmegi Sport that the tournament, to be played from September 8-14, will pit six African countries against each other in four categories namely singles, pairs, triples and fours.He explained that the African continental tournament serves as a qualifying event for the Glasgow (Scotland) Commonwealth Games that will be held next year. Other competing countries are Zimbabwe, Namibia, South Africa, Kenya and Zambia. Zambia are the defending champions in all the ladies categories while South Africa won all the men's events in the last tournament.

Tirelo Buckley of Jwaneng club will feature in the ladies singles while Timothy Morton of Gaborone club will compete in the men's singles. Pauline Lekone (Gaborone) will join Buckley in the women's pairs while Morton will partner with Kabo Gaboutloeloe (Gaborone) in the men's pairs. The triples women's team is made up of Obopile "Obie" Mosimanyana (Francistown), Nelly Senna (Phikwe) and Lekone. The men's team triples team will field Remmy Kebapetse (Jwaneng), Diane Senna (Phikwe) and Gaborutwe (Phikwe). The fours women's team will be made of Mosimanyana, Tibone "Bonnie" Fox (Gaborone), Senna and Lekone. Kebapetse, Senna and Gaborutwe and Gaboutloeloe make up the men's.
The BBA national team selection panel is made up of Tony Allen, Newman Motshidisi and John Ashby.
