Badubi shines at Lesotho marathon meet

Young long distance runner, Mosa Badubi continued to shine at the Southern African Region (SAR) cross-country held in Lesotho over the weekend.

The sensational runner is the only junior member who brought home an individual medal, winning gold. The junior female team won a bronze medal after finishing third after South Africa and Zimbabwe. Her teammates did well finishing in the top 20 although they failed to win medals. The White sisters Kenewang and Khumo finished in ninth and 16th respectively while Neo Gaalekane finished in the 17th position. Junior team coach, William Mokwena said although his team did relatively well the competition was tough. He said Badubi fell but managed to beat her competitors in the last 200 metres. He also complained that the competition had a lot of challenges because race guides gave athletes wrong directions in some instances.

Mokwena commended the girls and said with proper nurturing the country has a bright future in them. Their male counterparts, however, failed to finish the race.   The senior men and women's teams both finished fourth. The best position that a member of the senior men got was position 16 by Godiraone Ntlhompe. In the senior women's category, Onkemetse Solotate was 18th while her teammate and local champion, Marea Maano finished 20th.Botswana Athletics Association (BAA) spokesperson, Ipolokeng Ramatshaba said the team did well considering that the competition was tough. He added that from the results it was clear that all the teams from different countries prepared well. The competition was open to all Southern African countries.
