BABA Boss Warns Affiliates

Botswana Amateur Boxing Association (BABA) president, Adrin Tayane, has expressed concern over failure to hold all club competitions. He told affiliates at the BABA Ordinary General Meeting (OGM) at Lekidi Football Centre on Saturday that they had planned to stage four inter-club competitions but only two took place.

He said he is drafting a proposal that say any affiliate that pulls out of hosting a tournament at the eleventh hour should reimburse clubs what they have spent to prepare for the event. "Surely most of you are taking this lightly which shows no concern over the expenses that others incur to honour a fixture. We are all aware that we have to give notice to the BABA office well in time if we are not going to be able to host and failure to do so has to be dealt with in one way or another," he said.

He added that BABA has realised that affiliates do not fully support each other to attend tournaments and this may be a result of the late invitations or other issues that need to be ironed out. He said that the association will make an effort to re-schedule the cancelled tournaments. Tayane revealed that the association has received a P18,000 electronic scoring system from the International Boxing Association (AIBA). He added that AIBA has decided to give affiliates about P30,000 annually to buy equipment, so BABA is still to get P12,000. Tayane said they will use the balance to purchase gloves and head guards.
