Angola are firm favourites

Angola are favourites to beat minnows Lesotho when they meet in the opening game of the COSAFA Castle Cup at the National Stadium tomorrow. The two sides meet at 1pm to decide who meets Botswana or Namibia in the final on Sunday.

The spotlight will be on the Angolans after their surprising  qualification for the 2006 World Cup in Germany. They have named only four players who took part in the World Cup-Jamba, Loco, Lebo Lebo and goalkeeper Lama. Coach Luis Oliveira Goncalves will be banking on their experience to lead the Group C favourites. Last year, Angola reached the final of the COSAFA Castle Cup and were surprisingly beaten 2-0 by Zambia.

With this in mind, the Palancas Nengras will be coming to Gaborone with a positive mind in order to restore their lost pride. In their last meeting during last year's competition, Angola hammered Lesotho 3-1 at the Setsoto Stadium. Ze Kalanga who scored a brace and Mateus are not with the Angolan team in Gaborone. In their last African Nations Cup qualifier, Angola hammered Lesotho's neighbours Swaziland 3-0. It is expected that the burly striker Love from Primeiro de Agosto and Pedro Henriques will lead the Angolan search for goals.
