Anand maintains world chess lead

Defending champion, Vladimir Kramnik of Russia lost more ground as the World Chess Championship Tournament (WCCT) entered the second half over the weekend.

The Russian has been relegated to third spot with 4.5 points out of eight behind world number one Vishy Anand of India (5.5) and Israeli Boris Gelfand (five).

The development means that Anand has maintained his half a point lead at the top and increased the gap between him and Kramnik to one point. The Indian Grandmaster (GM) scored three points from the last four rounds to stay clear. In the opening games of the second half, he drew with Gelfand as Kramnik shared the spoils with fellow Russian Peter Svidler.
