'Amos can win gold despite injury concern'

Former Botswana 800 metre runner Glody Dube has said 2012 Olympics silver medallist Nijel Amos can still conquer at the August 10-18 World Championships in Moscow despite continued injury concerns.

Amos won gold in 800 metres at the 27th World University Summer Games in Kazan, Russia, last week Thursday. And Dube believes the Universiade triumph is a good omen that the budding superstar can bring a medal home next month despite his niggling injury.Amos has, in recent months, missed competitions owing to the injury, but Dube said it could possibly be psychological.  The 19-year-old bounced back at the Universiades in Kazan, Russia last week to win gold.

"He did well at the Universiade and that shows he can still do well at the World Championships. I sent him an email and told him to be careful about this injury issue - it could just be in his head. But obviously that is not to say he must not exercise caution - it is important in case he ends up aggravating it," Dube told Mmegi Sport.Amos is one of the four local athletes to have qualified for the 2013 World Championships.Defending 400 metre women champion, Amantle Montsho returns to the IAAF World Championships to preserve her title. Isaac Makwala has qualified for two events, the 200 metres and 400 metres, as well as high jumper Kabelo Kgosiemang.
