Francistown will bring a total of 170 junior karatekas for the final selection of the Zone VI team on March 31 after they were picked during Saturday's tournament.

The Botswana Karate Association (BOKA) held selection tournaments concurrently in the north and in the south on Saturday and the attendances were positive. Last year, the north was only represented by 32 karatekas in the national selection and this year's rise to 170 signals the progression of the sport in the region. The southern region last year provided 125 who were selected in Lobatse.

Close to 400 kids from age group Under 8 to Under 20 attended the trials in Gaborone while over 300 attended in Francistown. BOKA was picking finalists for both Kata and Kumite and they converge at Boipuso Hall in Gaborone for the final selection tournament.  The association's public relations officer, Jerry Ditlhong said the attendance in the north was encouraging.
