This Is Hypocrisy

"The BDP has for a long time trusted him with nothing but a messenger and driver's post and now they nominated him to represent the people of Gaborone," - Dumelang Saleshando, Mmegi November 4.

These are the word of a man whose party claims to be the advocate of the man on the street.  The Botswana Congress Party (BCP) has - mainly through its chief mouthpiece; Dumelang Saleshando- claimed that the BDP is a college of elitists. My shock came on Wednesday when the Public Relations Secretary of the BCP poured scorn over the nomination of John Mokandla; coming short of saying that he is unworthy of a council seat for he is a messenger.

I find such sentiments not only hypocritical but insensitive. Such sentiments vindicate the long held opinion that the BCP is nothing but a bunch of power-starved urban "intellectuals". I call them "intellectuals" because they think their university education and fancy jobs in the city confer intellect upon them.  I must, however declare that I am a staunch BDP member and supporter and as such, I view the BCP in disdain.
