This abuse is sickening

In the early hours of Monday June 29, 2009 residents of the Francistown Central ward in the Francistown East Constituency woke up to an announcement, through the public address system by a BDP area council candidate in the upcoming general elections, inviting form five leavers aged 25 years and below with good grades in science subjects to present their certificates for perusal at the Francistown East Parliamentary office on June 30, 2009 at 09:00 hours for scholarship to study engineering in an unnamed foreign country.

I understand from some of those who presented their certificates that it was the candidate himself who received and perused the certificates. Those who came from other parts of Francistown were turned away.

This article has been prompted by an advert which appeared on page 10 of Mmegi newspaper of July 7, 2009 inserted by the Department of Tertiary Education Financing inviting qualified personal for a scholarship tenable in Cuba for September 2009 in veterinary medicine, agricultural engineering, civil engineering, telecommunications and electronics and primary school education. The entry requirements mirrored those announced by the BDP candidate and one wonders whether the BDP candidate was acting for the Ministry of Education or had inside information before the advert appeared in the newspapers about scholarships open to all Batswana but decided to abuse deserving young men and women desperate to enter universities pretending to be a connected do-gooder in the eyes of the electorates to gain political mileage over his opponents.
