The Cartoon Wasn't Derogatory

I have been following the debate on the cartoon that appeared in Monitor after the BNF Molepolole Special Congress with interest. Honestly, I write this letter with disappointment because I am of the conviction that people, especially women organisations, are unnecessarily crying wolf.

For starters, cartoons are meant to entertain and communicate. One prominent feature about cartoons is that they convey the message with little or no words at all. Again, most often than not, cartoons depict what is happening in current affairs issues at that particular point in time.

As such, one would have to be privy with current affairs issues in order to understand what the cartoon is talking about. That is, you look at the cartoon and buttress what you see with the goings on at that time to deduce the meaning portrayed by the cartoon.
