Lessons for young Batswana with aspirations for Political Office from Barack Obama

I followed the recent USA presidential election, initially with indifference but towards the end of the Democratic Party Nomination race, with an intense study of the eventual winner of both the nomination and the White House race.

As a political non-aligned but very much aware youth, I took notes and I have garnered enough to share with fellow Batswana youth with aspirations to become President of Fatshe Leno La Rona one day.There were many lessons that came out of the campaign by Barack Obama, take pointers from a few.

1. The importance of social community networking
Obama started his campaign as a community organiser in Chicago, Illinois, forgoing a possible lucrative career as a lawyer for some Wall Street Firm. Instead of being a lawyer, he became a lecturer and a community organiser. In so doing he established a political base among the community and created extensive social networks.
