BDP man trivialised important debate

It is encouraging that the Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) is willing to be engaged in public debate on the concerns raised in the recent Botswana Congress Party (BCP) alert on the deteriorating quality of our democracy. The BCP's concerns are not unique to the party.

They are valid concerns that are shared by a large number of the people of Botswana. It was therefore rather unhelpful and disappointing that the BDP's representative on the TV programme was so single-minded in his approach to the debate.

Garekwe wasted no time in expressing his party's obviously deep disapproval of the BCP's distribution of its uncomplimentary document to all and sundry in the international community. This, Garekwe argued, was tantamount to washing the nation's dirty linen in public, and should be condemned in the strongest possible terms.
