BCP statement on the Zimbabwean crisis

The economy has collapsed. Poverty, disease and squalor are rampant. Mugabe has unleashed a campaign of terror on the people and he is using unconventional tactics to hang on to power.
The BCP wishes to register its concern at the failure of SADC and the African Union to resolve the crisis in Zimbabwe. Interventions on Zimbabwe by these institutions have been feeble and half-hearted. Leaders of SADC and indeed those of Africa at large have shown a high tolerance threshold for a despot in Mugabe. They have virtually allowed Mugabe to walk away with murder. The response of Africa to Mugabe's criminal conduct has demonstrated once again, that as a continent we have neither the desire nor capacity to entrench democratic values.
It underscores the indispensable role women play in our society, particularly in building strong households and nurturing families.
