An open letter to Venson-Moitoi and Rakhudu

I would like to take this opportunity to advice the newly appointed Ministers of Education and Skills Development Rre Keletso Rakhudu and Mme Mma Venson-Moitoi that, promotional matters in the ministry have for a long time raised eyebrows, because selection is not based on merit.

High positions in the ministry are not assigned on the basis of expertise, people are not given jobs because of what they can do but because of whom they are, and at times which political party do they patronise. Consequently, one of the reason why there seems to be bad blood and mediocre performance in the ministry is mainly because of bad promotional tendencies.

About 23 years ago, when Community Junior Secondary Schools came into being, individuals were handpicked from the classrooms to head such schools, very little attention was given to experience, qualification performance levels/ethics, and individuals were appointed to school boards along political inclinations. A mal-practice which produced ineffective school heads, with poor leadership skills, resulting in collapse of the system, and take over of Community Junior Secondary Schools by the government.
