Towards twelve years universal education

Botswana has an archaic educational pyramid, based on past priorities and necessities. The current crisis in education suggests strongly that a new approach to school structure needs to be considered and adopted.

A key solution to the grievances of teachers is to adopt a unified teaching service from preschool through the upper grades of secondary school.

Previous Issues have argued that time has come where teachers' salaries should no longer be dependent on which of the four levels they teach in. Instead teachers should be remunerated according to their education, training, experience, demonstrated leadership capacity and performance assessments at all levels (currently preschool, primary, junior secondary and senior secondary).
