Open letter to Statistics Botswana

As employees of Statistics Botswana, we are demoralised by the way the Statistician General runs this organisation.

When the transition from Central Statistics Office to Statistics Botswana started, a lot of jobs were advertised internally and externally.However, most of the jobs were never interviewed for as the Statistician General later gave some of her favourites direct offers of some posts. Some people were given posts which they did not qualify for. It is evident that these officers were being rewarded for their loyalty to the current Statistician General who was by then still acting. These individuals were also given higher salaries.

We have long since been assured that the Statistician General will call a staff meeting to be introduced to all staff but it is now overdue by six months. The leadership of this organisation does not care about staff welfare and service delivery as they choose to bring on board some individuals who do not understand or have experience on the job that they are doing. This has led to loss of morale which has negatively affected service delivery. Some of the issues that the current leadership has failed us are:
