I was misunderstood

In your Mmegi news of 28th February 2013 you printed an article with inaccuracies purporting certain statements were said by the OIE Representative at the Parliamentary Special Select Committee.

The article contains some untruths and is misleading to the reader and OIE Representation  request you to correct those errors.DVS has in the past asked for technical assistance from the OIE and the OIE has provided such assistance.  The OIE provides technical support to Member Countries requesting assistance with animal disease control and eradication operations. The OIE notably offers expertise to countries to help them control animal diseases including Botswana and has a permanent contact to international, regional and national financial organisations in order to convince them to invest more and better on the control of animal diseases.

In cases where OIE could not provide assistance the OIE linked the DVS with our partners for financial assistance as mentioned in more than one occasion. The Representative gave examples of assistance during the demarcation of the containment zone following Foot and Mouth Disease outbreak in an OIE recognised zone and capacity building at the Botswana National Veterinary Laboratory (BNVL).  BNVL was assessed by the visiting OIE Experts to have accredited tests and is an OIE Reference Laboratory for Contagious Bovine Pleuropneumonia (lung sickness).
