The South East District Council (SEDC) has expressed concern after learning that some youth in the district connived to defraud the Department of Youth.

“Honourable house, it is quite disheartening to note that the Department of Youth has made an observation of an undesirable trend of suspected cases of fraud and corruption among young people, who apply for the Youth Development Fund, especially in South East South Sub District. This resulted in the office conducting some investigations into the matter hence delays resulting in failure to meet the set turnaround time of 33 working days,” SEDC chairperson, Phenyo Segokgo told council recently.

Segokgo said he was informed that some cases have been reported to the Directorate on Corruption and Economic Crime (DCEC) and to the police therefore investigations are ongoing.
