Youth council knee-deep in internal clashes

Botswana National Youth Council chairman Metlha Mokwena says he fired some youth leaders after they plotted to topple his committee.

A few weeks ago, Gaborone district youth chairman Tony Petrus and his Lobatse counterpart Gobe Taziba were fired by the BNYC chairman for holding nocturnal meetings against the BNYC leadersghip.  Speaking at a BNYC consultative meeting in Tlokweng last weekend, Mokwena said instead of advising the BNYC leadership, some youth in the BNYC structures decided to direct their energy towards toppling his executive committee.

He said that the youth should wait for him to complete his three-year term in council, before moving in for the post. "My fear is that this spirit, if not bound and cast out from these souls, will grow to a point where they will eventually attempt a coup of government.  For some time following the elections of this executive committee, a certain group of people, some of whom lost during the 2011 elections have continually plotted evil against my committee.
