Woman buries child, gets 18 months

FRANCISTOWN: A youthful Zimbabwean woman has been jailed for concealment of birth. Senior Magistrate Peggy Hamoonga sent Naomi Dube to 18 months imprisonment.

Dube cried when mitigating as she stated that she had another child in Zimbabwe.
"I left my school going child in Zimbabwe. Where we were staying we were renting so there is no one taking care of the child since I have been in prison since March," she said.

The woman continued to weep saying that she did not wish to bury the baby but her boyfriend wanted to.
The state case shows that on March 8, Gerald police arrested the accused person after receiving information that she had given birth to a baby and abandoned it near the railway line at 'New Stands' in Tati Siding.
