Police say they have arrested a 45-year-old woman, of Flowertown in Mahalapye, at the Dibete Barrier Gate for possession of a substance weighing around two grams, believed to be methcathinone, more commonly referred to as ‘Cat’.

The woman, who was driving a van, initially tried to dodge the roadblock by taking the water pipeline road, situated a few metres away from the A1 Highway. However, her efforts were in vain, as the police spotted her vehicle from a distance.

They trailed her and eventually pulled her over for questioning. "She was brought for questioning at the Barrier gate and during the search, police found a sachet containing white powder suspected to be methcathinone in her handbag," stated Dibete Police Station commander, Superintendent Meshack Ranku. "The powder was seized and will this week be taken for weighing and analysis at the police forensic laboratory while investigations into the matter are ongoing."

He clarified that the suspect, who is currently under investigation while in police custody, was en route from the northern part of Botswana to the south when her journey was interrupted by the police.
