Why BCP did not help BNF

The Botswana Congress Party (BCP) spokesperson, Taolo Lucas, has revealed that they were reluctant to help the Botswana National Front (BNF) win the Lenganeng by-election in Tlokweng last weekend because both the BNF and its ally, the Botswana Movement for Democracy (BMD), have attacked and insulted the BCP on several occasions.

He further blamed the BNF for not marshalling the opposition, including the BCP, to present a united front at the by-election.  Curiously, Lucas contradicted himself saying that they urged their members to vote for the BNF candidate, as they did not contest the by-election before claiming "since we were not invited (by the BNF to help) we advised our supporters to stay away from voting".

He further charged that the BNF's campaign was disorganised.  "That is why it lost the by-election," he said. At a rally held in Mochudi recently, BCP president Dumelang Saleshando said they wrote the BNF to open communication on the by-election. He said the BNF did not respond.
