'We will contest the 2009 elections,' Balikani

FRANCISTOWN: Botswana Peoples Party (BPP) leader, Bernard Balikani has denied allegations that his party will not participate in the 2009 general election because it is cash-strapped.

"Yes, as a party we are cash-strapped because we do not have a reliable and regular source of funds. But the decision to withdraw from the elections is not yet taken as this is a peoples' party," Balikani said yesterday.

The BPP is going through the worst financial drought in its history. Whilst the party leadership has come up with some fundraising strategies, their attempts are not bearing fruit, leaving them in financial dire straits.
