"Making a change is not a matter of how many certificates you have. It is a matter of botho, of how much you care about other people," Theriso Motsemeng says.

Motsemeng, along with six other Batswana, was recently honoured with an award for being one of Ten Outstanding Young Persons (TYOP) by Junior Chambers International in the category of contribution to child rights, human rights and world peace.

Motsemeng is a child protection activist of note despite lacking a qualification in child psychology or counselling. She has also co-founded Walk of Hope with Serwalo Mosutlhane.  Walk of Hope is an organisation that helps sexually molested or abused children.  The organisation ensures that their cases are followed through, or arranges to take them out of the homes in which they are abused, as well as ensuring that the children undergo counselling. Parents with children who have been sexually molested often call the organisation complaining that the children's cases have not been attended to. Motsemeng and Mosutlhane then get in touch with the police, review the case and push for it to get to court.
