Valuers threaten NDB with suit

In a last minute effort to save a number of property valuing companies from closing down, the Real Estate Institute of Botswana (REIB) is contemplating taking the National Development Bank (NDB) to court over allegations of unfair practices in the allocation of property valuation services.

The fight for the provision of valuation services has engendered tense relations between the NDB and the private property valuers who claim that last year the bank invited a pre-selected group to tender for the provision of property evaluation services.

The Real Estate Institute contends that there is favouritism.     
In a letter addressed to the bank's chief executive officer, the real estate Chairman, Montshwari Mooketsi claims the NDB may have allocated valuation services to people not registered with the real estate body.
