FRANCISTOWN: Botswana Land Board and Local Authorities Workers Union (BLLAWU) president, Pelotshweu Baeng, has waived the joining fee to attract more members.

"As for today I am exercising my powers to waive the joining fee and all you have to do is pay the annual membership fee," he told a BLLAWU meeting at the Civic Centre in Francistown last week. He lamented that non-members are benefiting from the organisation by default. He said that they have fought and won many legal battles for better salaries and allowances and in the process, Land Board and local government employees who were not members of the union have benefited.

"When we speak to the employer, we speak for all of us and we are urging you to join in order to stop victimising members of the union who pay joining and annual fees," he said. He added that members' money are used to pay lawyers and consultants who then win battles for the benefit of all employees in the sector.
