Two Botswana Congress Party (BCP) councillors at the South East District Council (SDEC) have resigned from their party to stand for elections as independent candidates.

The councillors took the decision after they bitterly lost party primary elections two months back.  The two councillors, Kgabo Mabotseng of Magopane ward and Lawrence Kalaote of Mothubakwane ward, lost to Ben Rantuana and Joseph Mosomane respectively.

“I have received two letters from former BCP councillors Mabotseng and Kalaote, who indicated that they are now independent candidates,” SDEC council chairperson, Phenyo Segokgo said.
