Tshwaragano Brigade comes under government control

The government has taken over Tshwaragano Brigade Development Trust, which has two campuses in Gabane and Kumakwane. Tshwaragano becomes the 20th brigade to come under government control since 2001 when the take-over exercise began. The brigade was started by residents of Gabane and Kumakwane in 1975.

The vice-president of Tshwaragano, Thobega Ngwanawamonna, said that the government has found it necessary to work closely with communities, but most importantly to takeover the management of brigades.  He said the government has better resources and can, therefore, provide better management in the brigades. The government takeover of the brigades is good because there have been complaints that state resources pumped into the institutions have been misused.

Ngwanawamonna said that they are sad that the same government that has always encouraged them to be self-reliant is now taking away the only project the people have successfully implemented. He said that out of 41 brigades in the country, Tshwaragano with 701 students has always been among the best and produced good results.  "We have a number of students who were crowned best students nationally, and we are very proud of them," he said.
