Trial date set for couple who allegedly killed child

The murder trial against a Gaborone Block 3 couple will resume in June before the Lobatse High Court.

The case, which was met with huge public outcry three years ago, has been set for June 4, 5 and 6 for trial.Oakantse Modisagape and Shathani Bulayani are accused of the murder of 11-year-old Nathaniel Bulayani on October 11, 2011. Bulayani is the deceased's mother. Nathaniel, who was a Standard Seven pupil at Itumeleng Primary School in Gaborone, allegedly died at the hands of his parents after they tied him to the rafters of their makeshift house and assaulted him until he became unconscious.Before he was committed to the High Court, Modisagape had to undergo two psychiatric evaluations to ascertain if he was fit to stand trial.When the case was brought before court, members of the public bayed for the blood of the couple and they had to be kept in custody for the sake of their safety.The have been granted bail pending trial.
