Three-way last-ditch efforts for Mogapinyana today

The Executive Secretary of the Botswana Democratic Party (BDP), Dr Coma Serema, says he is confident that the BDP will retain the Mogapinyana Ward in the Mmadinare constituency in by-elections due tomorrow.

The ward seat became vacant when Kgosietsiloe Molemi died in a car accident earlier this year. He had been unopposed in the last general elections in 2004.
Serema says unlike in the Mmopane by-election last July when the Botswana Congress Party took the ward from the BDP, Freddy Mokokwana, the BDP candidate, will win the Mogapinyana Ward.

He said the BDP will hold "a star rally" featuring the party's Secretary General Jacob Nkate, his predecessor Daniel Kwelagobe, and the MP for Mmadinare Ponatshego Kedikilwe - within whose constituency the ward lies - in Mogapinyana today.
But the line-up of stars does not include BDP Chairman Ian Khama, an omission Serema says is significant of his party's confidence.
